The Centennial Gateway is designed to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the establishment of Southern Miss. The gateway, situated at the main Hardy Street entrance, incorporates the architectural vocabulary of the 1921 World War I memorial and street car station that used to stand in the same location, but was demolished in the 1960’s. The design also recognizes the architectural beauty of the Administration Building through the use of cast stone urns that are scaled and detailed identically to the ones on the Administration Building, as well as through the camel back form at the center of the sign to complement the timeless dome.
