Founded ten years earlier as a mission church and elementary school, the 300 member congregation requested a worship space capable of expanding to accommodate 500 seats. The facility also needed to reflect, the permanence and prominence, yet humble nature of the new congregation. Due to the sharing of property with the existing school, a land use plan was developed which allowed for growth of both entities. The worship facility was sited to address a major intersection. Facing the corner of the property, the building is a stately feature in the city's development pattern.
